What bought me back to piracy was the twatting about between several apps, only to find that what I wanted wasn’t on any of them.

If they want me back, they’ll have be more convenient than piracy. And piracy is pretty damn convenient these days.

We’re talking one service, all content that isn’t still in cinemas, 4K HDR, 5.1 audio. Let’s be reasonable, £30 a month with no ads at any time. Feel free to have ad tiers and lower quality if you’re charging less or even showing for free. That’s not my thing, I’ll pay for the good shit tier. I don’t need 8 screens at once or whatever nonsense Netflix know you won’t use. It’s just me, and my big television and sound system.

Music managed this. There’s no reason video can’t other than greed. I’m done asking nicely.

Remember kids: Torrents and Jellyfin are the only way.

I tried docker for Windows and it was pure pain. Not sure I’d recommend it for a beginner when the windows installers exist for most of it.

Jellyseer doesn’t have a Windows installer as far as I know.

Bazarr seemed useful but most stuff comes with subtitles anyway, and every time Bazarr grabs them for me, they’re inevitably out of sync because they’re for a slightly different version. I normally have to go to opensubtitles and grab a few until I find the right one. It’s probably more useful if you require subs in a language other than English.

Radarr, Sonarr, Jellyfin, qBittorrent.

I honestly think it’ seven more important to have an adblock on a phone.

The amount of pages that on mobile are an advert covering the top half, and a give us your data prompt at the bottom seems to be nearly everything these days. At least on a monitor there’s room for the content.

It wasn’t going to be done on 35mm with movie making kit. What you see there is probably the best it’s going to be.

Will they collect data on you to profile you and your activities and use that in the future? Yes.

And that’s why the only thing I use my VPN for is piracy. Don’t really have a good reason to push anything else through it.

In fairness I doubt the NSA give a single solitary fuck about piracy and aren’t about to give themselves up over a telesync rip of Beetlejuice 2.

But probably best to plan 9/11 part 2 over something a bit more secure.

Closest I’ve got to info is widevine keys extracted from insecure Android boxes. I’m happy just to download their copy tbh. It’s usually just as quick, if not more so.

I don’t often go for the full 4K Blu-ray Remux releases, since they’re massive and I can’t really tell the difference over a 10-15GB rip, at least visually. Just a webrip is fine, depending on the source. Plus even my nVidia Shield Pro struggles with them at times.

More like how all the music streaming services work. All got pretty much the same content, just different quality and prices.

Because you could use the Linux one to save the file unencrypted because it’s not locked down.

If only there was a way for media to exist as a file.

Why are people turning to piracy?

Advertising and lobbying are the only thing these people know how to do.

I went back to it recently. It’s mostly down to Amazon deciding that paying them was no longer enough, you had to watch their ads as well.

Well now I don’t. I installed Jellyfin, paid up for two years of VPN, and got another HDD. I’m set. I’m all done with asking nicely for a better service so I got my own.

I sub to Spotify because it’s easier than pirating. I’m a creature of convenience. If there was one streaming service that had all movies that have already had their cinema run, and all TV shows, and was all in one UI, and nothing ever got taken off it, and it was a reasonable price (say the price of two current streaming services), I’d probably pay up for it.

But there isn’t. They don’t want to offer it. They all want to be king of their little corner.

Gets you out of the consequences part though, which is good enough.

Well, the *arr stack can.

That bit is called Bazarr. You do occasionally have to dick about as well, as the subs might not be for that file, different cuts of the movie, different studio credits depending on where it was ripped from, etc.

Fortunately most movie and TV rips contain the subs in the mkv file.

Part of the reason I abandoned Amazon Prime is the complete lack of subtitles on half the content.

You can’t even download the subs from a third party source, because all these services insist you watch everything through their own locked down player.

But you know, there’s a service with all the content you want, subtitles for any language, up to 4K Blu-ray quality visuals and audio, and you never see a “leaving soon” sticker on anything you’re just getting into and still have 4 seasons left to watch. And it’s called Jellyfin.
