  • I’m very lucky to have 30€ 1Gb/~0.7Gb and the option to hop on the new freebox with symmetrical 8Gb for 40€/month. So today if I need to cap I’d just use my old 100Mb switch for my server I guess.

Not that I need it today (like at all), but I could host art videos (for example) or help out maybe. Thinking about it I should probably help and then bump up when needed…

What do you do with your big uploads, hey guys 😊 (jk ofc)?

I’m still working on my sharing protocol so as soon as I have time l’ll make a big node for it to try to jumpstart FOSS websites, I probably do the jump then.

Cheers and long live the free internet 💖

  • … and likely be faster for a couple of the 200+MB PDF’s.

    Natrator: “It wasn’t!”

Jokes aside, where do you live where 200MB x some would be considered some heavy storage? I mean me uploading that file to someone would take 2 seconds on my cheap home 1024Mb/s connection. A pro one would probably be way better…

I love the name of IPFS (Inter Planetary File System!), it’s cool and all but IMO the technology behind it is not at all living up to it, it’s basically just a benevolent storage with static links.

  • Person spending days and weeks to make content, repacks it and makes it available for free.

Person downloading and using it for free: why are you asking for money?

    .

Anyone can spin up a website for cheap and serve torrents for the heavy lifting. At least when you know people will seed your stuff, which is the case it seems.

Maybe the website takes a big load, IDK, but did you consider that asking for funds for the site isn’t (only) for paying the hoster? It’s for paying for the site, for supper, pc parts and the games, work, among others. Seems to be quite exclusive work too.

I’m not trying to do a moral judgement here, just trying to clear up the confusion.
