I’ve been using openbooks but I’d love to move to readarr for better management from mobile.
For me only certain movies are worth the space on my server that a high quality 4k rip would take up. I do most everything in 1080 and specific films in 4k. Besides that most people aren’t going to see a real difference unless you have a good home theater set up
Chris does most of his talking out his own ass in my opinion.
DRM sucks. We don’t need more of it.
In my wireguard config I have it’s DNS set to the IP of my pihole. That’s all I had to do. I’ve had this config running for a bit so I don’t remember if I had to change anything else.
Pihole and wireguard to use it outside the house is what I use.
If you want to host it, audiobook shelf is great. I use it for audiobooks, ebooks, and podcasts.
Other than that I’d just say get a library card and use Libby. If you have files in your phone playbook works but I don’t remember if its on fdroid.
As the other commenter pointed out, yeah definitely go read through the proton docs but if you are using docker , I recommend looking into gluetun. It has simplified so much for me personally but it isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Another recommend for build it yourself. I saw deals on 8tb drives at my local micro center and through 2 into an old desktop I no longer used. Been running that with TrueNas scale for a little over a year and its been great. I did recently switch to Ubuntu server after some docker issues that were specific to truenas though. Honestly given the budget you mentioned, a cheaper minipc off amazon and an external drive or 2 is a good place to start off. Its nothing crazy but you’ll have something functional to see what you need and want out of a server.
For kids stuff I found stremio and torrentio to be easy if a bit convoluted to set up.
